    Description

Thousands of years ago, a race of beings known as Dark Elves tried to send the universe into darkness by using a weapon known as the Aether. Warriors from Asgard stop them but their leader Malekith escapes to wait for another opportunity. The warriors find the Aether and since it cannot be destroyed, they try to hide it. In the present day, Jane Foster awaits the return of Thor although it has been two years since they last saw once another. In the meantime, Thor has been trying to bring peace to the nine realms. Back on Asgard, Thor wishes to return to Earth but his father, Odin refuses to let him. Thor learns from Heimdall, who can see into all of the realms, that Jane disappeared. There have been plenty of movies based on classical cartoon superheroes that have been poorly implemented and with a lousy story. Luckily this one is not one of those. This was really a very enjoyable movie and I liked this movie a lot better than the first Thor movie which I felt was mostly silly. This one has a story which was rather okay and held somewhat together. You have to remember that this is a comic book hero and the story is on that level of course. The special effects and the scenery is really nice as well. The views of Asgard is cool, almost breathtaking. Anthony Hopkins was excellent as Odin or Oden has he is called in Sweden, my country of birth. Tom Hiddleston is also very good in his role although I have to say that I really do not like his role but then he is supposed to be one of the bad guys so… Chris Hemsworth is good enough in his role but I would say that he is really the weakest ones in terms of acting. The movie is liberally sprinkled with jokes as well and, thankfully, most of them are not too bad. Although a bit silly I have to say that I did laugh when Thor politely hung Mjölnir on the clothes rack in the apartment with Darcy and Dr. Selvig. On the whole I enjoyed this movie tremendously.

More of the same. Predecible non elaborated script and with a total lack of sense of humor. The FX are, again, OK, but the feeling of swords, axes, armors and helmets is of cheap plastic.

Watching Thor: The Dark World tonight, I got the feeling that Hollywood might have finally figured it out. In theory, a sequel should always surpass its predecessor, although as we all know, many have tried and famously failed. But a new trend seems to finally be breaking through. X2 was better than X-Men. Spider-Man 2 was better than the first. And now that I've seen it, I can tell you Thor: The Dark World… is better than Thor. (And the fact that these are all Marvel productions, that's food for anther discussion.) I thoroughly enjoyed Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh, when I only saw it for the first time just this spring. In fact, I watched it again the same week. Which is saying enough to imply that my hopes were high for the sequel. So I was really looking forward to tonight and I was not disappointed. Thor 2 was helmed by a different director, Alan Taylor, which typically always spells trouble in my book when they change the director, but I take my hat off to him. What I admire is that he managed to capture the tone that Branagh set in the first film flawlessly – even perfected it in a way. He brings to the table a duality which almost never works successfully in any film, but here, does so perfectly: Taylor made Thor 2 notably darker, yet at the same time more humorous. I take my hat off to the writers as well – they put in a ton of great jokes, all at the exactly right moment. Had this been done even a fraction less tactfully, the film would have sunk like a bag of bricks, like so many others have. I found myself (and the audience) laughing my butt off one moment, and feeling very serious and engaged with the on-screen emotions the next. Even when it happened abruptly, it still never felt inappropriate. Now that's good entertainment. Two thumbs up. The actors all wear their roles like a custom-made suit. It's obvious that Chris Hemsworth has really grown into his character, third time around. This guy IS Thor, hands down. The same goes for all the other actors, they were all perfectly comfortable in their roles and respective environments. The one that intrigued me most, however, was Loki – personified absolutely magnificently by Tom Hiddleston. Much like Hemsworth, it seems he was born to play this role. He captures all the slyness, all the arrogance and all the torment of a man almost unable to bear the weight of his own ego in a single flicker in his eyes. And then that grin… Perfection. The way Hiddleston plays Loki is strangely captivating. You know he's totally wicked and cannot be trusted, yet at the same time you can't help but really like him – you might even end up rooting for this guy, and I'm not sure many other actors would have managed this. All the special effects were as good as one should expect them to be these days. I have nothing much to say there, except that it was all terrifically eye-pleasing, and Asgard looked even more beautiful than before. It was all convincing and very well done. Still, I have not completely explained why T:TDW is better than the first. Actually, I might not fully be able to. It's mostly a feeling. As much as I was entertained the first time, I was even more entertained now. It was more action-packed, more exciting, darker and it just had a great deal more adrenaline. The only thing that I think was weaker in this film, was the character of Jane Foster. Her character was just less interesting, kind of blank. I actually don't remember much of her at all, except that she slapped Thor a couple of times and she had all this creepy stuff coming out of her… Also she was somewhat of a damsel-in-distress most of the time with the look of a scared kitten on her face, and that's not exactly how we like to see our ladies nowadays. It's so common to see women being perfectly independent now, that it's a little weird to see a grown woman with "three degrees in physics" (as Darcy so poignantly points out) scared and shivering like a little girl. Most of the time, Natalie Portman just didn't carry her scenes very strongly, and that's strange coming from such a fine actress. So maybe one of the actors was actually a little out of place after all, thinking about it. Having said that, that's pretty much my only complaint. Every other element in this film was very solid, the story was very good and they absolutely nailed the pacing. Those two hours went by in the blink of a eye. Thor: The Dark World is wonderfully entertaining and a definite must-see for every Marvel fan. In fact – at the risk of enraging the Marvel Gods – this might just be pretty stiff competition to X-Men… Watch out Wolverine, I think I have a new favorite superhero. _(November 2013)_

**A long format review from 2013** Despite a virtually non-existent (comparatively) promotional campaign for Marvel’s latest effort, Thor: The Dark World has crushed its competition box-office-wise. Though receiving less critical acclaim than Captain Phillips or Gravity, it did clean up in the finance department. I’ve made no secret of the fact that in the MCU, my favourite Avenger is Thor, so a new film was always going to be an easy ticket from me. And I can’t work out if that bias is making me more critical of the film because I care so much, or less because I’m just happy it got made? I’ll try to be as above board as possible. Thor 2 is a spectacle, make no mistake. It has the appropriate mix of explosions, attractive people, monsters, humour, fighting, mesmerising visuals, sweet symbolism and heart-wrenching sorrow that can be expected from a decent super hero film. But beyond that, it doesn’t really have much. I know it sounds like it has a lot, and it honestly does, but I just couldn’t help feeling in a quite a number of moments that the thing felt hurried. Maybe if there wasn’t such a mad rush to get a Thor sequel out by the end of 2013, they could have spent a little more time fleshing out and filling in the script (not that it’s a short movie, I mean the pre-production feels rushed) and better utilising director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Rome, Carnivale). There was a hint of the generic, amongst this otherwise splendid film. 73% -Gimly

The second of the Thor movies, "Thor: The Dark World" has the Universe threatened by an evil, elf ruler who wants to use something called the Aether (a powerful, energy source). As Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) goes from one world to the next to quell wars, as well as sulk because he misses his girlfriend (Natalie Portman), the evil guy and his evil henchmen are on the march to retrieve the Aether and bring destruction to every world he can reach. Why? Because he's evil.Hemsworth has a plan to destroy the evil elf dude, but it goes against his father's wishes. Hemsworth decides to do it anyway with the help of his "brother" Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and a few Earthlings who are in way over their heads. The plan is risky, and failure means the deaths of gazillions of creatures in many worlds. My most memorable, movie moment of "Thor: The Dark World" is the scene when ** SPOILER ALERT ** Hiddleston is told that his adopted mother has been killed in combat by the evil elf ruler. Quiet and calm at first, Hiddleston suddenly destroys his room with his magic. Earlier in the movie, Hiddleston uttered harsh words toward his adopted mother."Thor: The Dark World" was more fun than I thought it would be. The action sequences were very good, as expected; but the dialogue and how the main characters interacted with each other were done very well, which has become the trademark of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Despite the alluring special effects and thrilling action scenes, the characters are the ones we truly connect to.--Mannysmemorablemoviemoments

They did a pretty good job with this but the first Thor was better. This has superb eye candy, a great cast, outstanding FX, excellent action AND they bring the funny, just not a lot of it and it's not quite up to snuff. In one scene Odin comes off as more of a dick than it seems like he would but since it's used as the setup for some light comedic relief it's tolerable. It could have been better but I can still watch it yearly.

'Thor: The Dark World' (or 'Thor 2') is another solid entry into the Marvel Universe - it's not the best superhero film, nor is it the worst. I'm glad they've kept the cast together and hopefully Marvel can do this across all their franchises, as it gives them a bit of authenticity. It's fun to see how they link some of the threads back to 'The Avengers', particularly with Dr Erik Selvig (Skarsgård). Now, I don't know who out there actually loves Thor, because he's certainly one of my least favourite Marvel characters, especially in the comics, as he's so rigid and boring and never does anything too exciting. He's certainly no Wolverine or Spiderman. And that's the film's biggest hurdle - how to make Thor and the story interesting for 110min. It sort-of achieves this... I know it's mostly set in Asgard, a different realm, but even then there are still a few things which stretch credibility: Why do the "Dark Elves of Svartalfheim" wear puppet masks? And why do they want to destroy the universe and - presumably - themselves? What exactly is the "Ether"? It's not just an alkaline chemical...Where exactly is the "Dark World"? Is it on Asgard, or is it another realm? Is it different to the "Limbo" dimension? Is Benicio Del Toro actually needed at the end of the film? Why is Asgard so poorly defended? Why does the final confrontation take place on Earth, where the Dark Elves can be easily found? And why can't the other Avengers - or the Fantastic Four, or the X-Men - help? Especially if the future of the universe is at stake? Seems unlikely S.H.I.E.L.D. would leave this up to Thor by his lonesome...One of the big saving graces is some of the witty laughs provided by Chris O'Dowd and Kat Dennings (plus Stan Lee's patented cameo!). There's some expertly timed quips thrown in, which add some levity to what could easily become quite a cumbersome story. I think that Hopkins was pretty wasted as Odin, Hemsworth has some decent moments as Thor, but Hiddleston as Loki once again almost steals the show, because even though you may hate him, he's often so likable! A great character to hold this part of the Marvel Universe together.

I'm not going to rate, because I've never done it before, but I think everyone needs to just stop complaining about YIFY. If you're looking for a movie to watch on a big screen, then don't download YIFY. However, I have download a lot of YIFY movies for my laptop that have turned out just fine. Is it the absolute greatest quality? Maybe not, but if I needed the quality of a movie theater GUARANTEED I would go buy the Blu-Ray. I've never had a major problem with YIFY's movies, the visual isn't the sharpest, but unless I've just been watching a movie at the theater, I usually don't even notice. The audio is fine.

The only thing I have to say about this one in particular is that the Dark Elves don't have subtitles.

The acting was solid. The production value was superb. Everything else was really poor. The back story and character motivations are laughably sparse. Most of the characters are completely one-dimensional, with the possible exception of Loki. The plot is the most boring and typical of all action plots - some "bad dudes who happen to be really ugly" decide to "destroy the world for no reason other than being evil" and "only our hero can save us all", etc. Moreover, it was lazy writing - whenever an absolute miracle needed to happen, it conveniently did, every time. Of course this is a mindless blockbuster Marvel movie so we shouldn't expect much. But the thing is that these kinds of films CAN be made with a reasonable plot, pacing, and character development. The writers were obviously just going through the motions to cash in on the surefire moneymaker sequel, and from a business perspective it is hard to fault them. But it says a lot about the sad state of Hollywood in 2013 that this film currently has a 7.7 on IMDb.

In my honest opinion the sequel "Thor: The Dark World" was much better and the strongest sequel in my opinion, it is a good sequel too "Thor". It was much better than the original for the sci-fi dark fantasy, CGI special effects, better action sequences than in the first one and it is a true sequel to the first film. I like this movie more than Iron Man 2, because it as a good decent solid bad-ass, kick-ass superhero flick. Thor saving the world. I love, love this movie more than the sequel, in my honest opinion this movie get's unfairly criticized by critics and get's the hate that doesn't deserve. This time the director Kenneth Branagh was replaced by Alan Taylor who did a good, solid job directing the sequel to Thor that does deserve. I have enjoy it more than the first one. I can get in to the story what was it about. (At least it wasn't boring like Justice League (2017) that movie was boring as hell and not logical Thor: The Dark World is.). I love that the romance between Thor and Jane continues. Thor teams up with Loki to save the Nine Realms from the Dark Elves led by the vengeful Malekith, who intends to plunge the universe into darkness. When Dr. Jane Foster gets cursed with a powerful entity known as the Aether, Thor is heralded of the cosmic event known as the Convergence and the genocidal Dark Elves. What I like about this movie beside the action sequences: Thor protects Jane in Asgard, Jane sees Thor's home and meets his parents. I love the London sequences in Greenwich, the center of the Convergence on the end of the film: Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) plans to unleash the Aether to destroy the universe,Malekith plans to unleash the Aether to destroy the universe, and that he will do this in Greenwich, the center of the Convergence. Thor battles Malekith, but a portal separates them, leaving Malekith unopposed. Thor comes back in time to help Erik, Jane, Darcy and Ian use their scientific equipment to stop Malekith before he destroy our universe. I love the battle between Thor and Malekith and Erik (Stellan Skarsgård) in which he helps to transport the ship in which it try to fall on Jane and Thor. I love in which Thor and Jane are trapped in a dark dimension Svartalfheim in which they find a portal and they try to stop Malekith from destroying our world. I love that the cast from the first film returned and reunited with Chris Hemsworth as Thor: Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård and Kat Dennings I enjoy those cast so much. Darcy (Kat Dennings) was a good girl. Natalie Portman is a hot bad-ass babe as Jane Foster. I love the CGI, special effects, action Thor fighting's Malekith army with his ships. I love the music score from Brian Tyler who replaces Patrick Doyle from the first film. Jaimie Alexander is a bad-ass babe as Sif, she is so gorgeous and sexy I love her. We see Jaimie the last time in this movie as Sif. Christopher Eccleston was a good villain as Malekith I liked him. Before I forgot Chris Evens did had a briefly cameo role as Captain America in which Loki imitated him. Enjoyable fun decent, solid good superhero and not bad movie Thor: The Dark World is my favorite MCU film. In 2013 they were still good decent MCU movies today they aren't anymore. 8/10 better than the original MILES way better than Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Guardian of the Galaxy 1 and Vol 2, Doctor Strange, The Incredible Hulk (2008) I don't like those movies.

Honestly, Thor was never my favorite superhero. I liked the first film, but did not make much enthusiasm, and in "Avengers" all my sympathies were given to Tony Stark. Therefore, "Torah 2" I waited without much trembling. And if it were not for my love for the Marvel franchise and not the prerequisite on which I managed to visit, then perhaps I would not even have gone to the movie to film ... And I would have lost much! "Thor 2" was just an excellent, incredibly exciting movie adventure. Unequivocally I can say that this film-sequel I liked much more than the first "Thor". The creators of the picture made a serious work on the mistakes, took into account many shortcomings of previous films and significantly raised the level of quality. In general, I was very pleased and pleasantly surprised. And now I will try to briefly describe my impressions, to reveal the pros and cons of this film.1. A fascinating and rather original story. "Thor 2" is a film with a completely new, separate narrative. Formally, it is the continuation of the first "Torus" and "Avengers", although the main storylines with these films are not connected in any way. Describe the story - it's a thankless task, a great chance to give undesirable details. Therefore, I will confine myself to general remarks. Firstly, it is very gratifying that the plot of the film does not develop according to the scenario of the "Renaissance of the Legend", according to which, judging by everything, practically all the fantastic films released in the last year were shot. Secondly, it's worth to praise the writers for the fact that the action develops systematically, powerful action scenes alternate with lyrical digressions and small humorous insertions - that's why the film keeps the viewer's attention for all two hours. Thirdly, I am glad that the film will not be delayed: everything is lively, bodrenko and laconic. Well, the last moment, which I wanted to comment on is the ending. For most viewers, it turned out to be very unexpected. As for the inconsistencies and some logical blunders, their presence seems inevitable for almost every fantastic film. Besides, in Torah 2 there are not so many of them (in comparison with the first film, at least). 2. Excellent graphics and special effects. Life in the 21st century taught me not to be surprised at anything. I do not know what special effects need to be invented so that in the current conditions they make a special impression. Therefore, "Torah 2" I'm not going to consider from the point of view of sensationalism and some novelty. Of course, if I had seen a schedule of this level even five years ago, then it is quite possible that I would lose my speech. Today, this film is just dignified. All special effects are well worked out. From this position, this picture can be safely put on a par with the same "Man of Steel", for example. There are, of course, individual details that looked excessively computerized and slightly unnatural, although for fiction it is forgivable. Of course, this tape is worth watching in 3D format, so as to maximize the effect of presence.3. Beauty! What not to take away from this film, so this is a beautiful picture. And for each viewer the understanding of this beauty will be very special. For example, the male half of the hall was fascinated by the unrealistically divine views of Asgard and really spectacular mass scenes. Their companions were much more interested in Thor himself, or even his material shell, which he actively demonstrated. Undoubtedly, all spectators, regardless of their gender and other characteristics, appreciated the beauty of the night sky, stars, incredible nature and architecture, which is abundantly presented throughout the film. A beautiful picture is accompanied by good music, which has already become quite traditional for the genre of fiction. 4. Friendly cast. After the "Avengers", it seemed that the actors' ensembles of the subsequent crossover movies Marvel would look bleak and insignificant. It is for this reason that the third "Iron Man" caught up with a bunch of actors who, in fact, played no special role in the development of the plot. In "Torah 2", the main actor's skeleton was removed from the first film, and there were almost no new actors. Due to this, the screen does not create an overload in terms of unnecessary dialogues and unnecessary scenes, and the cast seems very friendly and united. Of course, the main thanks are due to Chris Hemsworth (who, incidentally, after the movie "Race" has grown very much in my eyes). He easily becomes the center of the film, brilliantly copes with all the tricks, comfortably feels in the costume of Thor (which is said to be terribly uncomfortable) and perfectly interacts with other actors. In this film, he makes his character more charismatic and profound - and this can not but rejoice. Natalie Portman, of course, is good. But she practically did not show her character development. Although, of course, it should be praised for her work, because in comparison with the first film, from a purely physical point of view, it was much harder for her. Loki Tom Hiddleston continues to be one of the most disgustingly attractive villains in the fantasy world. And the rest of the actors are an excellent way to distract attention from the main characters and bring to the film a share of humor and diversity. Also worth noting that the film is full of "little joys", calculated on a fan base. For example, very pleased with a small, but very funny cameo Chris Evans in the role of Captain America. Or already become a classic cameo by Stan Lee. There are also soul-stirring allusions to previous franchise films. And most importantly: do not forget to stay at the screen for a few minutes longer! You are waiting for two additional episodes: the first - after the incredibly colorful final titles, the second - after the usual basic titles. Both episodes are very interesting and directly lay the path to the next film Marvel ... (personally my rating of expectations after these episodes at times increased). TOTAL. "Thor 2" is a spectacle that keeps the viewer in suspense from the first to the last seconds. Bright, colorful, saturated, dramatic and even quite unusual, moderately tragic and moderately ridiculous fantastic action, which is absolutely not a pity to spend two hours of free time. This is a solid and high-quality product, which you can safely forgive some plot flaws and inconsistencies. "Thor 2" - perhaps one of the best fantastic films of the year and one of the most worthy sequels for this genre.Unexpected, very nice gift. A real surprise for fans of fantasy and specifically the magnificent Marvel franchise, which, apparently, only gaining momentum ...Enjoy watching!
