I used to be a massive fan of South Park. It was 10/10 tv for me and I never missed an episode. Then, slowly but surely as often is the way the show's episodes started to get weaker and weaker to the point that I was rating most recent episodes 1/10.So I gave up on the show and haven't watched it in years.Give that the first movie was absolutely amazing, I thought perhaps the boys have actually pulled their fingers out and written a decent movie.Nope, wrong. It's better than the episodes that made me quit the show but it's still subpar at best. Such a shame that the show has fallen this way when it used to be cutting edge, unmissable stuff. And I thought this was going to be a full movie. How many parts of this are there? Should have just actually put some effort in and have made this a 90 minutes movie.

Never afraid to innovate, "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, switching from the usual 10-episodes seasons to periodical one-hour specials that have built a massive story arc around South Park's reaction to the virus. This third special involves a 40-year leap into the future, with Stan (who's escaped his hometown and is living with his passive-aggressive Alexa humanoid/hologram) returning after the suspicious death of Kenny. In the future, the dirt poor Kenny has become a famous scientist on the verge of discovering the origin of COVID-19. There's been plenty of changes, with Randy in an over-populated nursing home after the mysterious deaths of Sharon and Shelly; Jimmy becoming a popular late night TV host (specialising in inoffensive, 'woke' punchlines); while Cartman has seemingly converted to Judaism, with a stereotypical Jewish wife called Yentl, and three kids. Though Cartman's new life seems genuine, Kyle is convinced this is one long practical joke to mess with him. This episode veers into murder-mystery territory as the boys band together to solve Kenny's death after a new strain of COVID-19 causes South Park to go into lockdown, before ending in a cliffhanger that references the long-running Tegridy Farms arc and the possible return of another "South Park" favourite. There's a lot of gags about what the future may look like, with every store now a 'plus' or 'max' superstore and characters constantly referring to the future, even though it's technically the present. There's also an excellent bait-and-switch gag involving Mr Hankey. It looks like "South Park" will stay in the future for now, with another Pandemic special due later this year. With the show celebrating it's 25th anniversary and set to keep running until at least 2027, it'll be interesting to see if Parker and Stone stay in the future for good or move around the timelines for a bit of variety?

Now, I cannot claim to be a fan of "South Park", never have been and never will be. I just never could get into the animation - or lack thereof - and the way everything looks. But when Trey Parker and Matt Stone opted to sit down and do a take on the Covid-19 pandemic, I must admit that I had to watch this 2021 animated movie. So of course I did.And I have to say that "South Park: Post Covid" is really enjoyable. There is a lot of great observations on the situation of how, when, where and why the Covid-19 has been taking place, how it has been taking place and the effects it have had on people and society. And in the traditional "South Park" approach, Parker and Stone delivers spot on jabs at the whole situations.Sure, it could be considered tacky and immoral, given the ongoing pandemic. But this was not only fun, but also actually showcased the absurdity of how certain things have played out during Covid-19 and still does. So there are actually great pokes at society and such."South Park: Post Covid" is not going to turn me into a "South Park" fan, by no means, but it was actually an enjoyable animated movie and it was done in a way that only Parker and Stone could manage. So you should definitely sit down to watch "South Park: Post Covid", that much is certain.I am rating "South Park: Post Covid" a well-deserved six out of ten stars.
